World No. 29 Alejandro Davidovich Fokina shared his thoughts on being the only remaining Spanish player in the men`s singles draw at the Madrid Open Masters tournament.
In a statement quoted by Eurosport Spain, he addressed the situation directly:
“I don`t feel any extra pressure just because I`m Spanish and playing this tournament. It`s just another event, even though it`s in Spain. We`re not playing the Davis Cup. I`m very happy to be competing here, and it makes no difference to me whether there are 20 Spanish players in the draw or I`m the only one left.”
The 25-year-old player is scheduled to compete against Alexander Zverev in the third round of the competition tomorrow.
