World No. 34 American tennis player Alex Michelsen has spoken about the remarkable achievement of eight American players reaching the quarterfinals of the ATP 250 clay-court tournament in Houston, USA.
“It`s really cool. We have so many great guys in the Top 100 right now, like 12 or 13 players. American tennis is very strong,” Michelsen said after his match. “Hopefully, one of us will eventually win a `Slam`. It`s been a long time since that happened, but at least we have eight quarterfinalists at an ATP 250 tournament.”
This is the first time since 1991 that an ATP tournament quarterfinal lineup is exclusively American. The Houston tournament is held from April 1st to 7th. American Ben Shelton is the current champion, having defeated compatriot Frances Tiafoe in last year`s final.
