Alexander Zverev on Defeat by Berrettini: “I Let the Match Slip Away Again”

Sport news

World No. 2 Alexander Zverev is unhappy with his recent performances. The German player was defeated by Matteo Berrettini in the second round of the Monte Carlo Masters with a score of 6/2, 3/6, 5/7.

“Since the Australian Open, I haven`t won many matches. The last couple of months have been my worst period since my ankle injury.”

“I played great in the first set, but as soon as I lost my serve in the second, I started playing ten levels worse. My shots became much slower, and I just stopped hitting the ball properly.”

“And it’s been like this for the last few months. Nothing changes. So, I let the match slip away again. I think my level was awful, but that’s just my opinion.”

“The bottom line is that I’m losing. It’s very simple. If I win one or two of these matches, then there won’t be any more questions. But I’ve lost three-set matches in Buenos Aires, in Rio, in Indian Wells, in Miami, and here. I haven’t won any of them. So, it`s about these kinds of matches,” Zverev said at the press conference.
