Alexandrova Reaches Roland Garros Third Round, Explains Tactical Shift

Sport news

World No. 20 Ekaterina Alexandrova commented on her second-round victory at Roland Garros over Elisabetta Cocciaretto, where she secured a 6/1, 6/3 win.

“I played a good match, especially in the first set everything came together,” said Alexandrova. “I knew the second wouldn`t be as straightforward. A fight indeed developed, but overall, everything was under control.”

Alexandrova noted that she had missed two tournaments leading up to Roland Garros. “Considering this break from matches, I think I`m playing quite well,” she stated. Looking ahead to her next match against Veronika [Kudermetova], she emphasized the importance of focusing specifically on her own game.

She also discussed a strategic adjustment she is working on. “It`s important for me to continue playing the way I`m trying to play now, in a new way: not to rush,” Alexandrova explained. “Even if a rally isn`t unfolding exactly as I`d like, I`m trying not to force it. Before, I might try to hit a winner off any ball, comfortable or not, but now I`m attempting to wait for a more opportune moment. Even if I don`t always like doing that.”
