Remarkable video has surfaced showcasing the 7ft 3in NBA sensation Victor Wembanyama demonstrating his skills in football (soccer).
The 21-year-old French star has been inactive since February following a diagnosis of deep vein thrombosis.
In the absence of the 2023 No. 1 overall pick, the San Antonio Spurs finished 13th in the Western Conference, missing the playoffs for the sixth consecutive season.
Encouragingly for Spurs supporters, Wembanyama appears to have fully recovered, evident from footage showing him playing soccer in Costa Rica.
Standing significantly taller than his fellow players, the NBA center was captured in the video dribbling the ball, a truly remarkable sight.
He also comfortably won a header from a throw-in, showcasing a dominance in the air that would have made him a significant threat, perhaps reminiscent of the type of player suited for Tony Pulis`s Stoke side from about fifteen years ago.
Upon viewing the footage, former footballer Peter Crouch commented on social media platform X with a single word: “Baller.”
Hailing from Le Chesnay, a town approximately 45 minutes outside Paris, Wembanyama is known to support PSG.
Following his selection by the Spurs in 2023, “Wemby” light-heartedly poked fun at his teammate Jeremy Sochan for being a fan of Arsenal.
Discussing his relationship with Sochan, who grew up in Milton Keynes, Wembanyama stated: “We do talk football from time to time. My team is PSG, of course… We get along well, but it`s a shame he`s an Arsenal fan.”
Wembanyama entered the NBA two years ago as the most hyped prospect since LeBron James himself.
The French international has since delivered on the hype, earning Rookie of the Year honors in his debut season and being named to the All-Defense First Team.
Before experiencing blood clot issues, Wembanyama had been named an All-Star for the 2024-25 season and was widely expected to be the consensus Defensive Player of the Year.
However, that award was ultimately presented to Evan Mobley, as Wembanyama did not participate in the required 65 games to be eligible.
In the 46 games he did play this season, Wembanyama averaged impressive statistics: 24 points, 11 rebounds, four assists, and four blocks in 33 minutes per game.
Fans in San Antonio will be eager to see their star player back and healthy on the court next season, potentially playing alongside teammates such as De`Aaron Fox, Stephon Castle, and two new promising lottery draft picks.
