World No. 39 Anastasia Potapova shared her thoughts after defeating Ashlyn Krueger in the opening round of the Madrid tournament with a score of 6/7(7), 6/4, 6/2.
Question: The match didn`t start in your favor; it turned into a comeback victory. What was key to overcoming your opponent?
Anastasia Potapova: I believe the key to breaking her down was the correctly chosen strategy, combined with my fighting spirit and determination not to give in. Sticking to the game plan discussed with my team before the match really paid off throughout the entire encounter, particularly on my return game.
Question: Did Ashlyn Krueger surprise you in any way? You hadn`t played her before.
Anastasia Potapova: No, I hadn`t played her previously, but I had watched many of her matches. She`s been a name frequently mentioned recently. To be honest, nothing really surprised me because, overall, everything was quite predictable. It was expected she would serve well and powerfully, especially given her height. It was also anticipated that she would hit hard and wouldn`t prefer lengthy rallies. So, essentially, there were no surprises, but I must certainly give her credit. I believe that with her physical attributes and her game, she has every capability to reach the Top 10. I wish her all the best with that.
