World No. 52 Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova commented on her victory over Katie Boulter in the first round of the Rome tournament (6/3, 6/3). This win ended a series of four losses that began in February in Abu Dhabi.

Speaking about her feelings after securing her first win in three months, Pavlyuchenkova shared:

“I haven`t played full matches or won since the Australian Open. Since then, I`ve only played about two or three matches, all of which I lost. So, of course, it was very nerve-wracking to play today. I still feel like I`m not entirely where I want to be with my game. But I just fought for every single point, and honestly, I didn`t care about the final result anymore. My main goal was just to play as many matches as possible to get more practice, likely preparing for Roland Garros.”

Asked about her next opponent, Sofia Kenin, she added:

“Actually, our last match was in Abu Dhabi. I won that one, and then my results started to decline. But I played well and aggressively in that match, and I`m quite satisfied with my performance today as well. I just need to continue working and gaining form, and I hope things will turn out well.”
