World number eight, Andrey Rublev, who progressed to the second round in Barcelona, shared his perspective on whether he considers clay to be his favorite tennis surface.
“It’s a bit of both, yes and no,” Rublev explained. “Yes, because I’ve achieved some really strong results on clay, but also no, because I’ve had seasons where I’ve performed poorly on it too. I`ve come to realize it`s not really about the surface anymore. It`s more about your overall game. When you are playing well generally, then things like the court surface don’t matter as much. However, when you`re not playing well, it’s irrelevant – even if you have the ideal surface, the most convenient opponent, and the easiest tournament path, you’re still likely to lose early,” Rublev commented to the Telegram channel `Game Set Max`.
