Andrey Rublev on Confident Start at Barcelona Tournament: “Felt Really Good for the First Time in a While”

World No. 8 Russian tennis player Andrey Rublev commented on his entry into the second round of the ATP 500 clay tournament in Barcelona, Spain.

In the first-round match, Rublev defeated Jesper de Jong from the Netherlands, ranked 94th in the world, with a score of 6-1, 6-3.

“Today, I was able to play really aggressively from the very beginning. I think this was my first match in a long, long time where I felt truly good. We`ll see how things go. But I liked how I performed today.”

“I was really lucky to win in two sets. I know him well; he performed very well at indoor hard court tournaments, played really great matches, and beat some players that even I lost to. Plus, his style suits clay courts, and as you said, he went through qualifying, got used to the conditions here. As for me, I was expecting a really tough match. That`s why from the very beginning I tried to play really aggressively, to be 100% focused, and I managed to do it,” Rublev said in an on-court interview.
