Andrey Rublev Supports Player Concerns Over ATP Calendar

Sport news

World No. 15 Andrey Rublev addressed questions about whether he has ever been forced to play while injured. This topic came up in the context of numerous players complaining about the ATP Tour`s busy schedule.

“No, I`m not exhausted, I feel normal. Of course, I got a little tired at the end [of the match against Adam Walton], but there is enough time to recover. I`ll be fully ready for the next match,” Rublev stated.

He continued by acknowledging past struggles: “I have faced situations where I had to play with injuries. I encountered this last year. The Masters events have been extended to two weeks, which has significantly reduced the available time. There are pros and cons; one major disadvantage is that there`s practically no time to be at home or take a break between tournaments.”

Rublev highlighted the disparity between players: “You have to be like Sinner or Alcaraz, who win Masters titles and can afford to skip two or three tournaments, rest, and then go to others. For other players, however, you have to play almost every week. This is, of course, exhausting and very tough because you physically lack the energy.”
