Former world No. 1 Andy Roddick, the 2003 US Open champion, has shared his thoughts on the return of Italian world No. 1 Jannik Sinner, mentioning a three-month absence in spring 2024.
Roddick stated, “Sinner is coming back in Rome, and his home crowd is going to go crazy. Considering the support and fame he has in Italy, I`m not sure there could be a better place for his return. He played well in Turin and won the ATP Finals there, but he didn`t compete in Rome last year, so they haven`t seen Jannik since he became the world`s top player.”
“I`m not worried that the talk surrounding his return will affect him because he`s been dealing with it since the US Open 2024, and he`s won two majors in that time. I think he still commands people`s respect, even if I don`t agree with the convoluted nature of the doping protocols. Maybe there are a couple of people who are more interested in voicing their opinion than reading the facts, but Jannik is quite level-headed. I think he`ll come back with a fighting spirit,” Roddick concluded.
