Arsenal fans were thrilled when Gary Neville`s criticism of their team was firmly countered live on television.
Mikel Arteta`s Arsenal saw their hopes for the title diminish after a 1-1 draw against Brentford on Saturday, falling further behind Liverpool.

It appears Arsenal are likely to finish second in the league for the third year in a row.
Gary Neville had voiced concerns that Arsenal seemed to be regressing this season.
This criticism came despite Arsenal`s strong position in the Champions League, having defeated Real Madrid 3-0 in the first leg of their quarter-final.
Speaking on NBC Sports, Neville commented, “Arsenal’s league form has been quite disappointing.”
“If Manchester City wasn`t going to win the league, Arsenal needed to be ready to capitalize. But they aren`t, and they are not even close to Liverpool.”
“I believe this season is a setback for Arsenal. After their progress in recent seasons, it felt like they were becoming serious title contenders.”
“However, this season, they have moved backward, particularly in their squad strengthening. They didn`t adequately address the potential injury to Havertz, their main striker.”
“Odegaard has also seen a significant dip in form. And the departure of Edu has been felt off the field. Overall, it’s been a letdown.”
Robbie Mustoe, formerly of Middlesbrough and Sheffield Wednesday, countered Neville`s viewpoint.

Mustoe defended Arsenal, highlighting the significant impact of injuries to key players on their performance.
He agreed that Arsenal needs to invest in a striker to truly compete for the title.
Mustoe elaborated, “I still anticipate they will finish second again. The injuries to crucial players at various times this season must be taken into account.”
“It`s generally understood that strengthening the forward line is the final and most crucial step in team building.”
“I find it difficult to heavily criticize the team and their performances based on the disappointment of not winning the league.”
“Liverpool is unique this season in having very few injuries. Injuries significantly affect team consistency. While Arsenal does need another striker, I disagree with the assessment that they have regressed.”
Arsenal supporters online expressed their delight at Mustoe`s direct response to Neville.
One fan commented, “Mustoe shutting down Neville is the best thing you`ll see today.”
Another fan stated, “This is definitely the highlight of my Sunday.”
A further comment pointed out, “Neville actually predicted Arsenal would win the league at the beginning of the season.”
Another fan questioned, “How can it be regression when we are on the verge of the Champions League semi-finals?”
