Arthur Fils: Striving for Top 10 in Tennis

Sport news

World No. 14 Arthur Fils shared his objectives for the upcoming clay court season.

“My aim extends beyond just Roland Garros. I want to demonstrate strong performances across Madrid and Rome as well. A successful Roland Garros would be a bonus. I am dedicated to rigorous training and giving my all in every match.”

He added, “Currently, I am competing in more matches weekly and have developed better coping mechanisms for pressure. While last year brought positive results, my mental state wasn`t optimal – my attitude and on-court behavior were lacking. Now, there`s a significant improvement. I`ve undergone a real transformation compared to last year.”

Regarding the pursuit of a Top 10 ranking

“Breaking into the top ten is incredibly challenging. Ugo Humbert was close last year. Historically, France has had many outstanding players in the Top 10, contending for major titles. It`s become more difficult in recent years, but we, the French players, are making a comeback. Humbert is playing exceptionally, and so is Mpetshi Perricard. I am also forging my path upwards, and progress seems positive. However, I`m not rushing – with another 10 years ahead, everything is under control.”

Fils concluded, “Being the top-ranked French player is secondary to me. While frequently asked about it, I always state that being No. 1 in France isn`t my goal. If I`m second in France but in the Top 10 globally, that`s perfect, I don`t mind. The primary focus is to climb higher in the rankings,” Fils stated at a press conference.
