Aryna Sabalenka Explains Support for Automatic Line-Calling and Views on Two-Week Events

Sport news

World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka shared her thoughts on two-week “1000-level” tournaments ahead of the Madrid Open.

“I really like the two-week tournaments because having a day off between matches provides an opportunity to rest, have dinner with the team, or explore the city. Perhaps in a few years I`ll prefer to spend more time at home, but for now, I genuinely enjoy this format.”

On the Automatic Line-Calling System

“I am definitely in favor of the automatic system because chair umpires sometimes make errors. The marks left on the court aren`t always accurate due to the ball`s trajectory and speed,” Sabalenka stated.

On the Specifics of Clay Court Tennis

“Clay courts offer more time when hitting the ball, which used to throw me off. Too many ideas would clutter my mind, leading to mistakes. Success on clay demands excellent physical conditioning, but tactical intelligence is even more crucial. This surface is excellent for developing all aspects of your game,” she added during her press conference.
