According to his legendary father, boxing icon Julio Cesar Chavez Sr., Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. made a significant mistake in his recent bout against Jake Paul, which proved costly.
`The Problem Child` Jake Paul secured a comfortable victory over the former WBC middleweight champion last night at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.
Following this win, Paul is now eyeing significant opportunities, potentially challenging Gilberto ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez for WBA and WBO cruiserweight world titles. Meanwhile, Chavez Jr. is left to reflect on what went wrong in the fight.
Chavez Sr. Identifies the Key Mistake
Despite his son`s loss to Jake Paul, Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. stated he was pleased with Julio Jr.`s overall performance and health after the bout. However, he believes that a lack of activity, particularly in the early rounds, prevented his son from securing the win.
Speaking through an interpreter in an interview, the legendary fighter remarked, “He’s very happy about his son… He gave a good fight, he just didn’t throw enough punches in the first round. He said he’s very happy with the outcome. He said his son should’ve done more in the beginning to win, but he’s very happy Julio came out healthy.” He also mentioned ring rust as a factor, noting Jr. had been out of the ring for over two years.
Emotional Moment for Chavez Sr. During the Fight
While Chavez Sr. maintained composure when discussing the fight afterward, his reactions during the match itself revealed deep emotion. Footage captured the Hall of Famer appearing visibly upset and distressed as Paul seemed to control the action against his son.
