Brentford and West Ham Chase ‘Next Adebayor’ Adama Bojang

Football news

Brentford have initiated talks to sign Gambian prospect Adama Bojang, but could face a bidding war with West Ham for the highly-rated attacker.

The promising 21-year-old attacker garnered interest from Manchester United, Manchester City, and Chelsea in 2023 before his transfer to French club Stade Reims.

He spent the previous season on loan at Swiss club Grasshopper Club Zurich, contributing six goals and two assists in 27 appearances.

Notably, he registered a hat-trick against FC Luzern in April and netted a brace against INEOS-owned FC Lausanne-Sport in February.

In Gambia, Bojang has earned the nickname “the next Emmanuel Adebayor”, attributed to his physical build, technical prowess, and explosive speed.

Bojang is widely seen as one of the most exciting African prospects of his age group and was previously targeted by German clubs RB Leipzig, Eintracht Frankfurt, and Hoffenheim before his move to France two years prior.

SunSport has learned that Brentford have already engaged in discussions with the player`s representatives and estimate that a transfer fee of approximately £5 million could be sufficient to persuade Reims to part ways with him this summer.

The Bees are undertaking a substantial squad overhaul this summer and are reportedly close to appointing their current set-piece coach, Keith Andrews, as the new head coach following Thomas Frank`s departure.

Furthermore, they anticipate the potential departure of their key forward, Bryan Mbeumo.

Manchester United has submitted a £60 million offer for Mbeumo, but Brentford is seeking a fee closer to £65 million.

The Bees are also facing the likely departure of their reliable midfielder Christian Norgaard this summer, after Arsenal made a £9 million bid for him to replace the leaving Thomas Partey.

Concurrently, West Ham has also engaged in discussions with Bojang`s representatives, while an unnamed fellow Premier League side is understood to be observing the situation.

The Hammers are anticipated to be seeking reinforcements in attack, given the uncertain futures of both Niclas Fullkrug and Michail Antonio.

They admire Bojang`s potential and view him as a prospect for the future, but now encounter significant competition from Brentford, who are rapidly attempting to restructure their squad following Frank`s unexpected exit.
