Carlos Alcaraz on Clay: ‘I Missed It, It Gives Me Confidence’

Sport news

Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz, currently ranked second in the world, shared his thoughts on the strong crowd support he receives, particularly at the ATP 500 clay court tournament in Barcelona.

“Wherever I go, I`m incredibly fortunate to have immense support. I feel very lucky in this regard; you can see it at every practice session I have, anywhere in the world. I don`t really have moments to switch off, sometimes in matches I might lower my intensity, but the crowd is a great help in getting me re-engaged, and I need to maintain a high tempo throughout the entire match. Here in Barcelona, I always manage to do that,” Alcaraz commented.

He added, “I truly missed playing on clay; it really helps me gain the necessary confidence. I deeply enjoy competing in front of my family and friends. My aim is simply to have a good time, learn and improve, and then return to the court feeling happy.”

In the final match of the Barcelona tournament, Carlos Alcaraz is set to face Danish tennis player Holger Rune.
