Coleen Rooney`s earnings have now significantly surpassed those of her husband, former England footballer Wayne Rooney. This financial shift comes as her business ventures recently reported a substantial profit of £1.3 million.
According to new figures for her company, CWR 2021, the income generated from her endorsements and media career more than tripled within a single year.
The accounts for the year ending September 2024, published yesterday by Coleen, 39 (who was the runner-up on “I`m A Celeb”), revealed that her thriving business held £580,000 in cash assets.
In contrast, Wayne, also 39, the former captain of the Three Lions, was reportedly earning around £500,000 in his role as manager of Plymouth Argyle before leaving the club in December.
At the peak of his playing career in 2014, the ex-Manchester United striker was said to command a weekly wage of £300,000.
Coleen`s transition to becoming the primary earner in the family will be chronicled in a forthcoming Disney+ documentary titled “The Rooneys”.
The streaming service confirmed yesterday that the series will show Coleen managing her business responsibilities alongside taking care of the couple`s four sons and handling school runs.
A financial expert commented on the recent figures, stating, “These earnings demonstrate that Coleen was already bringing in more money than Wayne even before she participated in `I’m A Celeb`.” The expert added, “Following her popular appearance in the jungle, where she was very well-received by the public, her earnings are likely to increase even further.”
The expert also noted, “The increased public interest in Coleen after her strong performance on the show likely helped secure the deal for the Disney contract.” They concluded, “Earning significant amounts from a global streamer, in addition to her fee from ITV, will undoubtedly boost the Rooney family`s finances considerably.”
Coleen received a substantial fee for her participation in “I’m A Celebrity” last autumn, where she finished second to McFly singer Danny Jones, 39.
She has continued to earn income in recent months through various endorsement deals, such as promoting the health supplement brand Applied Nutrition.
Coleen has maintained a prominent public profile, particularly since the highly publicized 2023 “Wagatha” court case, a libel claim brought against her by Rebekah Vardy.
The legal dispute arose from Coleen`s public accusation that Rebekah`s Instagram account was responsible for leaking content from her private social media feed.
Ultimately, a judge dismissed Rebekah`s libel claim, ruling that Coleen`s original statements were substantially true.
This notable court case led to a three-part documentary series on Disney+, “The Real Wagatha Story,” which featured exclusive access to Coleen.
Wayne has recently shifted his focus to football punditry after experiencing a challenging period in management.
His recent managerial roles included stints at Derby County and Birmingham City, a brief return to playing for DC United in the US, and his unsuccessful tenure at Plymouth.
However, the changing financial fortunes within the Rooney family have generated significant media interest, proving to be a profitable avenue for them through documentary projects and other ventures.
Interestingly, the new Disney+ show is being produced by the same creative team, Lorton Productions, that was behind the 2022 Prime Video biopic about Wayne, titled “Rooney”.
