Former world No. 1 Jimmy Connors has given his assessment of Andrey Rublev`s partnership with Marat Safin.
Connors believes Rublev needs someone like Safin, sharing a similar attitude and personality, someone who can understand the emotional ups and downs of the game. He likened Safin to Ilie Nastase, noting the unpredictability that made his matches exciting. Connors added that when Safin played well, he was exceptional.
“I think it could be a really good option for Rublev,” Connors stated, pointing out Safin’s time away from tennis. He suggested Safin has likely been observing and analyzing Rublev`s game from an outside perspective and might have reached out with valuable insights.
Connors compared the situation to Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray seeking guidance from former greats, concluding, “Why not try it and see?” in his “Advantage Connors” podcast.
