Mike Perry is prioritizing discipline and focus to enhance his career prospects, drawing a contrast with what he perceives as a “career spiral” for Conor McGregor.
Perry and McGregor share a complicated dynamic. McGregor recently urged Perry to “come home,” despite having appeared to dismiss him after Perry`s boxing match against Jake Paul last year.
Known as ‘Platinum’, Perry is currently preparing for his next bout while also actively promoting his Dirty Boxing Championship promotion. The second event for DBX is scheduled for tomorrow night, Friday, June 14th, taking place at the Hangar Miami.
Mike Perry Confirms BKFC Status Amid McGregor`s `Spiral`
Perry stated he remains employed by BKFC. He then reflected on Conor McGregor`s situation, noting that the Irishman has not competed for over four years and has become more renowned for his lifestyle than his fighting activity.
Perry acknowledged McGregor`s significant accomplishments outside the ring, such as acting roles and business ventures that contributed to a high ranking on the Forbes list. He attributed this widespread influence primarily to McGregor`s initial rise in the UFC.
“I definitely still have my job,” Perry commented, before offering a sarcastic take on his rival`s path. “He did a great movie. He’s touched a lot of bases in business and he’s been all over the place even getting over Cristiano Ronaldo on the Forbes list.”
Perry continued, recognizing McGregor`s achievements while emphasizing his own commitment to staying on track.
“You can’t argue with that and the guy has done incredible things. It was all his build-up in his early UFC days that got him to this point. I had an incredible build-up and I’m having lots of opportunities.”
“I’m trying to stay on track and focused. When my opportunities come, I’m staying ready for them. I stay focused so as not to have the same spiral he had in his career. I’m sure he’s working on the right side of things and trying to build himself back up.”
Perry Open to Potential Fight Against McGregor
Perry expressed his willingness to fight McGregor should the opportunity ever arise. The two had a notable face-off in 2023 following Perry`s victory over Eddie Alvarez. However, a fight couldn`t materialize because McGregor is bound by a highly lucrative, exclusive contract with the UFC, preventing him from competing elsewhere.
“We might not ever see him fight again but he says he wants to,” Perry remarked. “He`s still owned by the UFC but he`s working and promoting BKFC. An incredible matchup is for me and Conor to fight in BKFC, maybe some day he can get some practice in the ring.”
Perry suggested that McGregor would need bare-knuckle experience before a potential fight between them could realistically happen.
“Otherwise he doesn`t get any practice and he thinks he can fight me in bare knuckle without having ever been in there. Right now, those things aren’t happening but I’m looking forward to it and excited about it. Until then, I’m focused on Dirty Boxing on June 14 in Miami.”
