Dana White`s significant entry into the world of boxing will commence this September with one of the most anticipated and significant fights of recent years.
Even Canelo Alvarez`s uninspiring win over William Scull on Saturday failed to dampen the excitement for his next move. It was widely expected that this bout served merely as a prelude to the true biggest fight in boxing. Turki Alalshikh, the head of boxing in Saudi Arabia, confirmed these expectations by arranging a face-off in Riyadh after the fight between the undisputed super-middleweight champion, Alvarez, and the two-division undisputed champion, Terence Crawford.
Dana White Launches TKO Boxing with Alvarez-Crawford Fight
Following the initial face-to-face encounter and date announcement for Alvarez vs. Crawford, Turki Alalshikh shared further details in a post on the X platform. Although Dana White`s name was not mentioned during the in-ring segment, it was later confirmed that this fight would mark the debut of the TKO Boxing promotional venture. Alalshikh stated, “We will deliver the fight of the century… on September 12 at Las Vegas` Allegiant Stadium… The legend Canelo will defend his title… against the great Terence Crawford. The TV platform will be announced soon with a big surprise. My brother Dana White will promote this first TKO boxing event with me. It will be something crazy.”
Industry insiders speculate that the “big surprise” regarding the TV platform points towards Netflix, which has previously partnered with the TKO Group for WWE events and boxing shows like Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson.
Terence Crawford Discusses Upcoming Fight with Canelo Alvarez
Following Alvarez`s contentious decision win, Crawford entered the ring for the face-to-face confrontation. Speaking later with Seconds Out, Crawford commented on the upcoming fight. He remarked, “Canelo is the face of boxing; this is the best fight and the biggest fight for Terence Crawford. That`s why I want to take the opportunity to share the ring with another great.”
Crawford also added, “On September 12, we will all see if the weight makes a difference… One fight at a time… I don`t think Canelo has slipped as a fighter. William Scull just did a good job moving a lot and neutralizing his power punches. If you look at the styles that beat him, they didn`t move much, not as much as William Scull did.”
