UFC President Dana White has stated unequivocally that Conor McGregor will NOT be fighting “anytime soon.”
The Irish fighter was initially scheduled for a major octagon comeback last June in Las Vegas for a fight against Michael Chandler. However, those plans were derailed when he broke his left pinky toe.
Over the past year, McGregor has appeared to have limited interest in fighting, reportedly focusing his efforts on a potential political campaign in Ireland.
Despite this, `The Notorious` recently seems to have regained his appetite for competition, especially following a series of recent fight announcements made by UFC supremo White.
Earlier this week, he posted on X (formerly Twitter): “Wow! Real exciting times again in the UFC.”
The first fighter in UFC history to hold titles in two weight classes simultaneously then shared a message on Instagram: “@DanaWhite, @TKOGRP call that big butt nurse.”
He added: “Let`s get this show started, UFC.”
McGregor`s recent statements about a potential return were relayed to Dana White by reporter Adam Glyn this week.
The experienced promoter decisively shut down speculation about the sport`s biggest star stepping back into the cage in the near future.
The 55-year-old told reporters: “He`s not fighting anytime soon. I haven`t talked to him in a minute.”
“But yeah, I don`t know when [he`ll fight again].”
McGregor has not competed in the octagon since sustaining a severe left leg break during his third fight against Dustin Poirier in July 2021.
During his time away from active fighting, the Irishman has branched out into promoting, acquiring a stake in Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship.
In March, McGregor suggested his fighting career might be winding down, expressing satisfaction with his accomplishments.
However, he quickly contradicted himself moments later, declaring: “I hold every pay-per-view record in the book.
“I hold every gate record in the book.
“And my comeback will be slated as the greatest comeback or the biggest, most-anticipated comeback of all time.”
“[But] right now Ireland is in my thoughts and that’s where I’m at.”
He concluded: “It will happen, I’m sure and it’s always great to be here and there you go.”
Should McGregor eventually fight again, his next bout would be his first since a civil court ruled him liable for assaulting Nikita Hand at a Dublin Hotel in December 2018.
The former champion has appealed the High Court verdict from last month.
He is hopeful that presenting new evidence will lead to the overturning of the civil trial`s outcome.
