Daniil Medvedev Discusses Bringing Daughters to Tournaments and Rome Experiences

Sport news

World No. 11, Russia`s Daniil Medvedev, shared his thoughts on when he might start traveling to tournaments with his daughters, Alisa and Victoria.

He was asked about bringing his family, similar to Karen Khachanov who brought his family to Rome, and how he spends his time between matches in the city:

– Karen Khachanov mentioned bringing his whole big family to Rome. When will you bring all your girls to a tournament? And how do you entertain yourselves in the city during breaks between matches?

Yes, but my second child is younger, so we haven`t traveled with the daughters even once since the second one was born. Perhaps we`ll head to Wimbledon or somewhere else together, where we can rent a house – somewhere it`s easier to organize everything. For now, only [my wife] Dasha is here. Dasha sometimes travels without the children, so here we enjoy our time together as a couple.

It`s worth recalling that Medvedev and his wife Daria first became parents in October 2022. Their second daughter was born in early January of the current year.

Medvedev also commented on the promotional practice session held at Piazza del Popolo before the `Masters` in Rome.

He was asked about this unique experience:

– You went to Piazza del Popolo and held a promotional practice there. How was this experience in general, what did it give you, and have you had such an unusual court setting in your career before?

I probably can`t recall a similar court in such a square. I`ve often eaten in restaurants there in previous years, so it was cool. I also practiced there with Moutet just out of interest. It was a very interesting experience, and this was long before the tournament. The point is that the courts, even if they lay them out exactly the same way, will still feel different from the main courts here. I don`t know how to explain it. So, it was simply cool to practice long before the tournament, in public, let`s say, together with everyone around.

Furthermore, Medvedev spoke about training with Corentin Moutet before his match against Briton Cameron Norrie at the Rome `Masters`. Daniil won that match with a score of 6/4, 6/2.

He was asked if he sought out a left-handed practice partner after learning Norrie would be his opponent:

– Am I correct in understanding that when you found out Norrie would be your opponent, you wanted to practice with a left-hander? On one of the days, you sparred with Corentin Moutet.

Yes, I know that in matches he behaves unusually; he often has issues with other players. But in practice, I think he doesn`t have problems with anyone. At least, we train normally together; in fact, we`ve trained together quite often throughout our careers, maybe five or six times. We were just waiting for the match results, as the coach always says. So, we waited for the results, and when Norrie won, it was quite late. The coach messaged several left-handers he knew weren`t playing the next day. And one of them was Moutet. Despite the fact that he himself was playing another left-hander [Ugo Humbert] next. He agreed, and we had a great practice session.
