Daniil Medvedev Talks About His Three-Month-Old Daughter

Sport news

World No. 11 Daniil Medvedev commented on changing his outfit several times during his opening match at the Monte-Carlo Masters against Karen Khachanov (7-5, 4-6, 6-4).

“Actually, it was chilly all day: it was cold during the warm-up, a cold wind was blowing. Last year in Madrid, it was very cold – I got injured, so now I prefer to dress warmly: long pants and sleeves, and take them off during the match if needed.”

“But when I went out – I don’t know, maybe the central court is a bit more protected from the wind – I immediately felt quite hot. Actually, it would have been better if I hadn`t put on pants. Because of them, my body was much hotter, and because of this, you get tired much faster. But it`s okay, I already understood that in the first set I would have to play with them anyway.”

– But mom would be happy that you put on leggings and went to play.

“Well, mom has nothing to do with it. I have never worn them before. But in Madrid, it was really very cold, I then calmly ran for a drop shot, but bam, I pulled something. Therefore, I decided that if it’s cold, it’s better to play it safe.”

– You could say you are playing in a home tournament here. Does this somehow help?

“Yes, it`s nice, I sleep at home. Everything is close, everything is familiar. I am rarely with children at tournaments. It`s cool. Does it help? In different ways. But it’s always nice that during a tournament you can be at home.”

– If taxes did not exist all over the world, would you still choose Monaco? Or would it be another place?

“Hard to say. It would definitely be the south of France, because I found my team, my coaches here. Would it be the south of France or Monaco? Monaco, tax-related or not, is a very calm country. Everything is very relaxed. Even if you want to party, you can find it all. But if you want a very calm life, then this is paradise. I, let`s say, like to be relaxed, chilled, how is it, laid-back. Therefore, I think that it’s not only about taxes. So it turned out that I ended up in the south of France, and, of course, in terms of taxes, Monaco is better than France (laughs).”

– When will we see [your second daughter] Vika on social media?

“There was already a first photo, it seems.”

– Well, to see properly…

“I don’t know about that, we’ll see. Sometime 100% you will see, when she gets a little older, when she starts walking, something like that.”

– So is it still about age? Is she very small, so you are afraid of jinxing it?

“No, no. It`s just that she is still very small, she will still change a lot. She will get a little older, there is no fear of jinxing it. She will start walking, it will be funnier, then we will post it,” Medvedev said in an interview.
