Diana Shnaider on Her Dominant Rome Victory and Safina’s Past Success

Sport news

World No. 11 Diana Shnaider commented on her decisive 6-0, 6-0 victory over Caroline Dolehide in the second round of the Rome tournament.

When asked about delivering “bagels” (6-0 sets) – having previously given two to Dinara Safina on her birthday in Madrid and now two to Dolehide – Shnaider stated that this time she “prepared” them for her mother and brother, who are with her at the tournament.

Addressing a question about Mirra Andreeva and her coach Conchita Martinez`s impressive record in Rome, where Martinez won four times consecutively, Shnaider acknowledged that she had seen Martinez also reach the final for a fifth time.

Regarding her own coach, Dinara Safina, who won the Rome tournament in 2009, Shnaider said they haven`t discussed this specific tournament in detail. However, she is aware of Safina`s win and considers it “very great” and a significant “achievement” for a Masters-level event. Nevertheless, Shnaider believes that “a lot could have changed” at the tournament since 2009, adding, “We`ll see,” in an interview with Чемпионат.
