Following Canelo Alvarez`s recent unanimous decision win against William Scull, MMA figure Dillon Danis directed sharp criticism towards the Mexican boxing superstar.
In a recent event held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the highly-regarded boxer successfully defended his multiple super middleweight world titles and also secured the IBF belt.
Even with the significant news that Alvarez is set to face Terence Crawford on September 12 in Las Vegas, Danis, known as a controversial jiu-jitsu practitioner in the MMA world, appeared more focused on expressing his disappointment with the quality of the Alvarez-Scull fight itself.
Dillon Danis Described the Canelo Alvarez vs. William Scull Fight as Putting Spectators to Sleep
The bout reportedly did not meet expectations. William Scull was noted for his defensive approach, primarily moving around the ring without launching significant offensive attacks. Canelo Alvarez, while acting as the aggressor throughout the match, seemingly did only what was required to secure the win.
Reacting to the contest, Dillon Danis took to social media to voice his strong disapproval, criticizing both Alvarez and the sport of boxing more broadly.
He posted: “Canelo just solidified my point. MMA is way more exciting than boxing. The supposed king of boxing went 12 rounds with a mannequin from JCPenney and still put everyone to sleep. At this point, boxing ain’t a sport anymore, it’s a sleep aid with ring lights.”
Dillon Danis Also Targets Devin Haney After a Subpar Performance
Danis is frequently outspoken and not shy about criticizing well-known athletes. This pattern continued with his comments on Alvarez. The undisputed super middleweight champion wasn`t the only prominent boxer Danis targeted recently.
His criticism extended to a recent boxing event held in Times Square, which he also found disappointing.
Specifically, Danis delivered a harsh joke aimed at Devin Haney following his performance at that event.
