Adding to his woes, Nketiah had an opportunity to shoot at Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen with his very first touch.

However, just nine minutes later, the ex-Arsenal player was sent off after a high foot foul on Jan Paul Van Hecke in the 78th minute.

In his brief time on the field, Nketiah touched the ball only twice and made just two passes before his dismissal.

He was unsuccessful in all of his ground challenges and lost possession in two 50/50 situations during the intense derby.

Despite the game being finely balanced at 2-1, fans at Selhurst Park applauded Nketiah as he walked off, while online reactions were more critical.

One fan commented on social media about Nketiah`s cameo being one of the worst ever seen.

Another simply questioned Nketiah`s actions with a sad emoji.

Conversely, some supporters defended him, suggesting the first yellow card for diving was undeserved due to contact and that the second yellow was also harsh.

Jan Paul Van Hecke also received a red card in a match where referee Anthony Taylor handed out a total of three.

Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi was also sent off in the same eventful period.

Guehi, aged 24, was dismissed for a second yellow card after a challenge on Brajan Gruda.

This second caution for the England international occurred shortly after medical staff attended to Maxence Lacroix following a serious head injury from a clash with Joao Pedro.

Despite the drama, Crystal Palace secured victory thanks to two excellent goals from Jean-Philippe Mateta and Daniel Munoz, which sandwiched a goal from Brighton`s Danny Welbeck.

This win moves The Eagles closer to Brighton in the league standings.
