The source of the incident was from a small appliance that had caught fire in the stadium’s laundry room.

Firefighters were observed combating the fire as black smoke emanated from the stadium structure.

Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service received the call at 8:08 pm, with teams from Luton, Stopsley, Dunstable, and Leighton Buzzard stations responding.

According to the fire service, firefighters utilized breathing apparatus and tackled the fire using an aerial platform and a 9-metre ladder, deploying two hose reels during the operation.

A thermal imaging camera was also employed to identify any remaining hot spots.

The fire was successfully brought under control and extinguished within a two-hour period.

A statement from Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that crews remained on the scene subsequently, and a full road closure was maintained on Hatters Way for some hours.

These events occurred just hours before the Championship team`s scheduled match against Coventry.

The upcoming game, which is significant for the Hatters in their effort to avoid relegation, was planned to commence at 12:30 pm.

A club statement released at 10:39 pm assured that there would be “no disruption” to the scheduled fixture with Coventry.

The statement detailed: “We wish to inform supporters that following reports of an incident at Kenilworth Road this evening, there is no impact on tomorrow’s fixture against Coventry City taking place.

“Smoke was found to originate from a small appliance that caught fire in the stadium’s laundry room. The incident was confined to this area and was swiftly dealt with, preventing any significant damage.

“We extend our sincere gratitude to Beds Fire & Rescue for their prompt action, as well as to club partners and staff who were on site to assist in resolving the matter and ensuring everything is now safe.”
