Fognini also shared a story before the match about his eight-year-old son being a huge fan of Alcaraz. When the tournament draw was released, his son called him and exclaimed, `Dad, did you see? You`re playing Carlitos!`. Fabio confirmed and asked if his son wanted to come and watch the match. His son replied excitedly, `Yes, yes, yes, I`m coming!`. His wife Flavia Pennetta and their daughter also came. When his son saw Alcaraz, Fabio jokingly told him, `Don`t say hello to him, he`s my opponent tomorrow`. According to Fognini, his son was slightly offended by this joke.
