Magistrates in St Albans heard that Defoe, who earned 57 caps for England, was driving a Land Rover in Wormley, Hertfordshire.

His lawyer stated that the former Tottenham Hotspur star should be given credit for admitting the offense.

Defoe, who was not present in court, was ordered to pay a fine of £660, along with £90 in costs and a £266 victim surcharge.

He also received three penalty points, adding to the nine already on his driving licence.

Defoe`s history of driving offenses includes a six-month disqualification for speeding in July 2008.

He received another six-month ban for the same offence the following year.

He later admitted driving at 45mph in a 30mph zone in Portsmouth in May 2008, for which he was issued an additional four points.

The former striker was back in court in October 2010 after being caught using a mobile phone while driving in Loughton. He was given three points – narrowly avoiding another ban at the time – and fined £800 for this offense.

His third six-month ban was issued in December 2020 for driving at 56mph in a 30mph zone in Rutherglen, South Lanarkshire.
