Fulham 3-2 Liverpool: Reds Fall Short After Early Goals

Football news

When a team in second place isn`t really competing for the title, losses like this don`t have a big impact.

Liverpool was surprised by Fulham`s strong attack in the first half, conceding goals within 14 minutes. Despite this, they remain 11 points ahead with only seven games left, and their fans were still positive, singing about winning the league.

That`s right.

Alexis Mac Allister scored a powerful goal, but Fulham responded with goals from Ryan Sessegnon, Alex Iwobi, and Rodrigo Muniz.

Luis Diaz scored for Liverpool with 18 minutes remaining, but they couldn`t equalize.

However, this loss didn`t really change their overall situation.

Arsenal`s inconsistent performance, shown by their 1-1 draw with Everton the previous day, is why Liverpool is still in a strong position.

This defeat for the likely champions is also reminiscent of Arsenal`s team from 21 years ago.

In the 2003-04 season, Arsene Wenger`s Arsenal went unbeaten for 38 games, a feat that seems almost impossible to repeat.

Liverpool has been very dominant this season, and this was only their second loss, and their first away from home.

Although the Premier League might be less exciting now, teams outside the top six are generally much stronger.

This is evident with Nottingham Forest`s win at Anfield and now Fulham, who are having a good season under Marco Silva and still have hopes for European qualification.

`Fulham

Fulham deserved to win, even though Liverpool put a lot of pressure on them towards the end of the match.

Liverpool started well, recovering from two poor results against PSG and Newcastle by winning against Everton during the week.

Mac Allister had only scored five goals for Liverpool this season, but perhaps he should try shooting from outside the box more often.

He took the ball from Iwobi, stayed on his feet despite a challenge from Sander Berge, and then hit an unstoppable shot into the top left corner.

Fulham deserved to equalize, although Liverpool manager Slot will be frustrated by how easily Sander Berge moved forward.

Andreas Pereira`s cross bounced off Jones and landed perfectly for Sessegnon, who shot past Caoimhin Kelleher before Van Dijk could block.

While Liverpool`s defending for the first goal was poor, Fulham`s second goal came from even worse defending.

Andy Robertson`s risky pass out of defense was intercepted by Iwobi.

Iwobi`s first shot was blocked, but his second shot deflected off Robertson into the goal, as Robertson tried to recover from his mistake.

Iwobi thought he had made it 3-1, and although Kelleher made a good save initially, Muniz scored a brilliant goal from the resulting corner.

Liverpool didn`t clear the corner effectively, and Iwobi accidentally kicked the ball high into the air.

However, Muniz controlled the ball with a great first touch, moved past Van Dijk, and then shot through Kelleher`s legs.

Diogo Jota`s shot was brilliantly saved by Bernd Leno at the beginning of the second half, and Liverpool didn`t create many chances again until Diaz scored a nice goal.

The end of the game was exciting. Kelleher saved a powerful shot from Harrison Reed, and Leno made a good save from Federico Chiesa on the other end.
