Belgian world No. 63 Zizou Bergs addressed Canadian ATP world No. 55 Gabriel Diallo after their direct encounter in the final of the ATP 250 grass-court tournament in Hertogenbosch, Netherlands. Diallo won the match with a score of 7/5, 7/6(8).
“Gabriel, dude, why today? Why are you playing so well?” Bergs asked during his on-court interview. “Congratulations. You`re a great guy. Everyone should know how cool you are. And your team too. I love your team, we`ve spent the last few years together, we`ve trained together, and soon we`ll be playing doubles together at Wimbledon. So happy for you guys.”
This victory marks the first ATP Tour title for the 23-year-old Diallo. As a result of this win, the Canadian is set to debut in the Top 50 of the ATP rankings tomorrow, June 16, reaching a new career-high of world No. 44.
“Guys, I`m speechless,” Diallo said in his on-court interview. “This is something you dream about your whole life since you were a kid. The fact that I was able to do it here after losing in the final last year means so much to me. I`m just so happy, not only for myself, but for my whole team.”
