World No. 44, French tennis player Gael Monfils, shared his opinion on the collaboration between Andrey Rublev and Marat Safin.
Monfils is set to play against Rublev in the second round of the Monte-Carlo Masters.
– Marat Safin has joined Rublev`s team. You know him well, having played against him and leading 4-0 in head-to-head matches. How can Marat help Andrey?
– Honestly, I don`t know, it`s hard to say. Mainly, Marat`s experience is important. He has won Grand Slams and major tournaments.
Psychologically, he was incredibly stable. He really enjoyed high-pressure matches and won many of them. So, his extensive experience is what he can bring to Rublev`s game.
We will see what happens over time. Perhaps it`s too early to talk about changes. This is Marat`s first time coaching a top player, similar to Andy with Novak. It`s difficult to say right now. We need at least a few days,” said Monfils at a press conference.
