Gary Lineker has confirmed his plans for the future after his departure from Match of the Day. He will not be joining a competing television channel and will instead concentrate on expanding his podcast network.
Lineker, aged 64, is set to leave his role as the presenter of Match of the Day in May, concluding a 26-year tenure. His complete departure from the BBC is scheduled for 2026, following his involvement in the next season`s FA Cup and World Cup broadcasts.

There was speculation about the former England star`s next move, with many wondering if he would move to Sky Sports. However, the former footballer has stated that he will not be appearing on any rival TV channels and will instead be focusing on podcasts.
Lineker mentioned in an interview with FourFourTwo that his main focus will be his podcast, suggesting that appearances on other football broadcasts will be infrequent.
He clarified that while there were discussions with Sky, his loyalty remains with the BBC. Lineker is prioritizing his Goalhanger Podcasts, which includes popular shows like The Rest Is Football, co-hosted with Alan Shearer and Micah Richards, The Rest Is Politics, and The Rest Is History.
Collectively, Lineker`s 13 podcasts achieve over 40 million downloads monthly. Podwatch data indicates that Goalhanger Podcasts holds the top four positions in the UK podcast charts.
Lineker acknowledged potential higher earnings elsewhere but emphasized his preference for the BBC due to loyalty and the extensive reach of its platforms, noting that Match of the Day still attracts a larger audience than most live Sunday football games.
He also highlighted his long-standing relationships, mentioning his barber, gym trainer, and agent of many years as examples of his loyalty.
From next season, Gary Lineker`s position will be filled by a trio of presenters: Kelly Cates, Mark Chapman, and Gabby Logan.
