A visibly upset Ian Wright spoke about his “difficult week” before receiving public support from Steph Houghton regarding the dispute with her former England teammate, Eni Aluko.
Eni Aluko, a former Chelsea player, faced significant criticism after alleging that Arsenal icon Wright was “hindering opportunities” within women`s football.

Following widespread backlash for her remarks, Aluko retracted her statements and offered an apology to Wright, who is widely recognized as a strong supporter of the women`s game, long before its recent growth in popularity.
The popular figure (Wright) declined Aluko`s apology, stating instead that it was time to “move forward.”
Aluko has since withdrawn from her role as a host at the Women`s Football Awards.
Now, Wright has received public endorsement from England women`s football notable, Steph Houghton.
Wright and Houghton co-host a YouTube podcast named Crossways, where they discuss various aspects of women`s football.
Reflecting on the challenging time, a downcast Wright commented: “It’s been quite a tumultuous week. But ultimately, everything is resolved.
“It’s always good to see you, Steph, you make me smile. It truly has been a difficult week.”
Houghton, who played with Aluko for England, publicly supported Wright and expressed gratitude for his contributions to women’s football.
She stated: “Ian, I just want to say this, and it`s not planned – I believe I also posted this on Instagram.
“What you have done for our sport is incredible, and you deserve all the praise you`ve received this week, because you are a true superhero.

She concluded, “And I genuinely enjoy working with you.”
Wright responded with obvious pleasure, “I love you, Steph. Seeing you support me publicly means a lot.
“My only hope,” he continued, “is that we focus on the collective growth of the women`s game, not just individuals.
“I won`t elaborate further,” he finished, “but I sincerely appreciate the public support I received.”
