Iga Swiatek After Early Rome Exit: ‘I Need to Reset and Change a Few Things’

Sport news

World number two, Iga Swiatek, commented on her defeat by Danielle Collins in the third round of the Rome tournament, where she lost 1-6, 5-7.

This marks the first time since 2021 that the Polish player has failed to reach the Round of 16 at a WTA 1000 event. Furthermore, she hasn`t secured a title since her victory at Roland Garros in 2024.

“Of course, it`s not easy,” Swiatek stated. “Obviously, I`m doing something wrong. I need to gather myself and change a few things.”

“My team gave me some advice. I just have to follow it.”

Asked who she relies on for emotional support during this challenging period:

“Well, on Daria [Abramowicz, my psychologist] and basically on everyone on the team. We talked and came to certain conclusions. So I`m going to change my mindset a bit, because…”

Regarding her expectations for the upcoming Roland Garros:

“Obviously, the expectations aren`t high because I`m not able to show my usual tennis. As I said, I`ll just try to change my mindset a little, reset, and focus on working day by day.”

Responding to a comment about other players achieving great success at some Grand Slams even when not in their best form, claiming a `special feeling`:

“I don`t care what happened to others. There`s no point in comparing.”

Asked if she has any special feeling when she arrives in Paris:

“It doesn`t matter what feelings I have. Every year is different, so… It doesn`t matter,” Swiatek concluded in the mixed zone after her elimination from the Rome tournament.
