“It’s Not Normal”: Davidovich Fokina on Hawk-Eye Live Mistake Against Zverev

Sport news

World No. 29 Alejandro Davidovich Fokina commented on a contentious incident involving the Hawk-Eye Live system during his match against Alexander Zverev in Madrid.

The issue arose at a crucial moment with the score at 2-6, 5-4. Zverev was certain that Davidovich Fokina`s shot had landed outside the line, but the Hawk-Eye Live system indicated it was in. Zverev protested the call to the chair umpire, Mohamed Lahyani, who declined to leave his chair to personally inspect the mark. The electronic decision stood, prompting a visibly frustrated Zverev to retrieve his phone and photograph the ball mark on the clay court.

Speaking after the match, Davidovich Fokina supported Zverev`s view. “When I looked at the mark from my half of the court, I immediately understood that it was a clear error,” the Spaniard stated during his press conference. “I cannot comprehend how the system determined that the ball was inside the line. I agree with Sasha (Zverev) that the system needs to be changed. This is not normal.”
