Jake Paul’s Claim About Canelo Alvarez Fact-Checked After Mike Tyson Fight

Boxing news

Jake Paul`s latest jab at Canelo Alvarez was quickly corrected.

Jake Paul is set to box Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., a former champion and son of a boxing legend, on June 28th. This will be Paul`s first fight since his victory over heavyweight icon Mike Tyson in November.

Leading up to what could be his toughest boxing match, Paul is still frustrated about a potential fight with Canelo Alvarez that didn`t happen earlier this year. Negotiations between Paul and Alvarez for a major summer fight were underway before Riyadh Season and Turki Alalshikh signed Alvarez to a multi-fight agreement.

Since the Alvarez-Paul fight fell through, Paul has repeatedly taken shots at the Mexican boxing star, including before his upcoming fight against one of Alvarez`s past opponents.

Jake Paul ‘Fact-Checked’ on X After Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Statement

In a recent post on X, Paul made his first comments after the fight announcement and also subtly criticized Alvarez.

“Five years ago, I started my professional boxing career after only one amateur fight. Every fight since has been a step towards becoming a world champion,” Paul stated.

“I just beat the ‘baddest man on the planet’ and broke records. Now, I’m fighting a former world champion with 54 wins, who Canelo supposedly ‘barely beat’…”

Soon after Paul’s remarks, X`s ‘Community Notes’ feature challenged his claim.

“‘Who Canelo could barely beat’ – Canelo Alvarez actually dominated Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., winning unanimously 120-108. Chavez Jr. didn’t win a single round according to any judge,” the note clarified.

As of now, neither Alvarez nor Chavez has responded to Paul’s comments. Alvarez and Chavez fought in 2017, with Alvarez winning by unanimous decision.

UFC Champion`s Surprising View on Jake Paul`s Boxing Career

Paul`s boxing success has drawn criticism, but former UFC featherweight champion Ilia Topuria is not among the critics.

During a recent appearance on the Full Send Podcast, Topuria praised Paul for his marketing skills and impact on boxing. This contrasts with the views of many other UFC fighters, despite Paul`s victories over figures like Anderson Silva.

Paul has rebounded well since his first boxing defeat to Tommy Fury in 2023. He has won five fights in a row, including a significant win against Tyson and a clear victory over former UFC star Nate Diaz.

A win against Chavez Jr. could further silence Paul`s critics. Regarding his comments about Alvarez, Paul seems still bothered by the failed fight negotiations.
