Despite his age, Jamie Vardy is convinced he can still play in the Premier League and doesn`t want to drop down to the Championship after leaving Leicester.
Vardy, 38, confirmed his departure from Leicester City after a 13-year spell. The Foxes were relegated from the top flight following a disappointing season.
The former England international described the past campaign as a “s***show” in his emotional farewell statement.
Leicester`s relegation fate was sealed when they failed to secure a win against reigning champions Liverpool at home.
His illustrious thirteen years at the King Power Stadium included the memorable Premier League title win in the 2015-16 season, alongside individual honours like Player of the Season and a spot in the PFA Team of the Year.
He also clinched the Premier League Golden Boot in 2019-20, scoring 23 goals, one more than Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
This season, Vardy netted seven goals in 32 appearances for Leicester.
Previously, there was speculation linking him with a move to Wrexham, dubbed “the most obvious transfer of all time”.
However, Sky Sports reports that Vardy has no intention of moving to the second tier, believing he can still compete at the highest level.
A potential transfer to Major League Soccer was also discussed. Meanwhile, former Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp suggested that if Vardy joined Wrexham, owned by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, his goals could propel the Welsh side towards the Premier League.
It`s worth noting that Wrexham themselves recently achieved promotion, securing a spot in the Championship after a 3-0 victory over Charlton Athletic.
Another option being considered is a potential “fairytale” return to his boyhood club, Sheffield Wednesday.
According to reports, the 38-year-old striker, who earned 26 caps for England and scored seven international goals, will begin his search for a new club once the current league season concludes.
