World No. 1 Jannik Sinner shared his reactions following his fourth-round victory over Francisco Cerúndolo at the Rome Masters, prevailing with a score of 7/6(2), 6/3. This win secured his place in the tournament`s quarterfinals.
“Cerúndolo is a very strong opponent, and this match became a real test for me, especially now as I`m adjusting to many challenging situations on court,” Sinner commented. “In the first set, I managed to get a break, but after his immediate response, I concentrated on staying focused and fighting for every single point. When the score was 5/1, I understood I needed to be highly vigilant, as the momentum can shift very quickly.”
Expressing satisfaction with his performance, Sinner added, “I am genuinely happy, and I feel a sense of progression. I played better today than in my previous matches, which is a positive sign. It was a long day, but the incredible support from the crowd made a huge difference.”
On his physical condition:
When asked about how he feels physically after the match, Sinner responded, “I will assess that once I`ve recovered from the match. It will be a busy evening with necessary recovery work. However, I am simply glad to be back competing after a three-month absence. I feel fortunate to be here playing. As for what comes next, we`ll just have to wait and see how things unfold.”
