Jannik Sinner on Doping Case: Faced Criticism, But Wasn’t Treated Differently. Tested Perhaps More Than Others

Sport news

World No. 1 Jannik Sinner was asked if anti-doping rules should be reviewed.

“It`s hard to answer,” Sinner said. “The protocols are the same for all players with positive tests. There`s no difference in treatment. Even if there was some criticism directed at me, I wasn`t treated differently. I had to file many appeals, and maybe I was tested even more than others. Then WADA reviewed everything again. In contamination cases, like mine, doctors see after checking that it doesn`t provide a physical or mental advantage.”

The Italian was also asked to pick the best player among the `Big Three`.

“I was lucky enough to get to know [Nadal and Djokovic] a bit better than Roger [Federer]. I didn`t see him much, didn`t talk to him much. I can judge Rafa and Novak a bit better. I really like Rafa; he cares a lot about the people around him. And he`s a great fighter. Numerically, Novak is the best, but we should be happy to be living in this era. They`ve achieved insane results over these 20 years.”
