Jessica Pegula’s Honest Words After Miami Final Loss to Sabalenka

Sport news

American tennis player Jessica Pegula, currently ranked fifth in the world, shared her thoughts on losing to Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, the world number one, in the Miami Open WTA 1000 final. Sabalenka won the match in straight sets, 7-5, 6-2.

In her on-court interview, Pegula congratulated Sabalenka and her team, acknowledging Sabalenka`s impressive performance. “Congratulations, Aryna, to you and your team. Three finals is incredible! I’m not going to lie, right now I don`t really want to like you,” Pegula joked. “But you truly are the best player in the world, and it`s well-deserved. You keep pushing everyone to improve. Congrats on an amazing couple of weeks here and also in Indian Wells. The level you`ve played at this past month has been truly amazing!”

This final marked the third time Pegula has lost to Sabalenka in a final. Previously, Sabalenka defeated Pegula at the Cincinnati Masters in 2024 (6-3, 7-5) and at the US Open final in 2024 (7-5, 7-5).

For Pegula, this was her third final of the season. Earlier this year, she was defeated in the final of the Adelaide WTA 500 tournament and won the WTA 250 title in Austin.
