Kamelzon Impressed with Alexei Popyrin’s Trajectory

Sport news

Distinguished Russian coach Vladimir Kamelzon shared his observations on male tennis players he follows outside of Russian athletes.

“Look at our Russian guy, Popyrin. Yes, he was born in Australia and is, of course, Australian, but he grew up in a Russian family and speaks Russian brilliantly. He recently defeated Ruud, who was the world number seven, and he simply makes me happy; he`s a very good guy. He is proceeding according to his own plan in tennis and has the potential to improve in the playing aspect. He reached twenty-fifth in the rankings but has slightly fallen back now; he`s just doing his own thing, and nobody is criticizing him there in Australia,” Kamelzon was quoted as saying.

Alexei Popyrin is currently ranked 26th in the ATP rankings. His highest career position was 23rd, achieved in 2024.
