Lorenz Ferdinand, son of the Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand, has signed with Havant and Waterlooville for the remainder of this season.
The 18-year-old goalkeeper is joining the seventh-tier club, which competes in the Southern League Premier Division South. This move is part of a work experience arrangement with his Premier League club, Brighton & Hove Albion.

Unlike his famous defender father, Lorenz plays as a goalkeeper. Rio Ferdinand is celebrated for his successful career with teams like Leeds and Manchester United.
Havant and Waterlooville confirmed the signing in a club statement: “Havant and Waterlooville Football Club is delighted to announce the arrival of goalkeeper Lorenz Ferdinand on work experience from Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion for the rest of the season.”
The club added, “Lorenz, aged 18, has progressed through Brighton & Hove Albion`s youth system and is currently developing his skills with their Under-21s team.”
“Lorenz will join Shaun North’s squad as they approach the season`s conclusion.”
Rio Ferdinand, a father of five and a six-time Premier League champion, is seeing his eldest son, Lorenz, pursue a career in football.
In 2023, Lorenz signed a management agreement with New Era Global Sports agency. Rio Ferdinand shared on Instagram: “Our eldest is embarking on his football journey. This achievement, earned through dedication and effort, is a significant milestone.”
He continued, “The path ahead has its challenges, demanding robust and professional guidance. We are confident in New Era Global Sports to provide this support. We are proud of you, Lorenz.”
This season, Lorenz made one appearance for Brighton’s PL2 team, playing briefly in a 4-2 victory against Southampton.
