Man Utd squad for Europa League final CONFIRMED with key man missing out against Tottenham after losing race to be fit

Football news

Manchester United will be without key defenders Matthijs de Ligt and Lisandro Martinez for the upcoming Europa League final match.

Manager Ruben Amorim has confirmed his squad for the highly anticipated clash in Bilbao. De Ligt and Martinez are the only two senior players who will not be traveling with the team.

De Ligt had been in a race against time to be fit for the final after sustaining an injury against Brentford earlier this month.

Despite the initial injury not being considered serious, the central defender missed matches against Athletic Club, West Ham, and Chelsea and is now confirmed to miss the final as well.

Lisandro Martinez`s absence from the European fixture was anticipated, as he suffered a ruptured ACL in February during the match against Crystal Palace.

While manager Ruben Amorim`s side faces a setback in defense for this all-English encounter, they have received a significant boost in their attacking options.

Striker Joshua Zirkzee has been included in the traveling squad, which is notable as Amorim had previously stated that the Dutch forward would be out for the remainder of the season.

Amorim had commented on Zirkzee`s situation, saying: “He’s not going to play more this season. Let’s prepare him for the next one. It’s tough, especially in this moment. I think he’s improving in all aspects of the game, so it’s hard for any player to stop.”

Diogo Dalot and Leny Yoro, who were also considered doubts due to injury concerns, have been named in the squad traveling to Bilbao.

Young striker Chido Obi is ineligible for the trip due to UEFA rules, having transferred from Arsenal in October.

Their opponents, Tottenham, will also be without several key players due to injuries.

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou will not have James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski available, as both creative players have been ruled out with knee injuries.

Lucas Bergvall is also considered a major doubt due to an ankle ligament issue.
