18-time Grand Slam champion and former world No. 1 Martina Navratilova has shared her thoughts on the performances of British tennis star Emma Raducanu, the 2021 US Open winner. Raducanu recently reached the quarter-finals at the Miami Open.
Navratilova commented, “It was truly impressive to watch her in Miami. Especially considering how the second set unfolded, it seemed like the match was slipping away. She managed to win it in a tie-break, but clearly wasn`t feeling her best in the third set. I believe stress played a role in that. Despite the pleasant, cooler weather, and the late finish after 11 PM, the humidity can be incredibly draining. Nevertheless, what Emma achieved was significant, and it`s remarkable that she completed the match.”
Navratilova added, “If she maintains this level of play and stays healthy, she`s definitely on track to be seeded at Roland Garros. I anticipate her ranking will continue to improve, potentially breaking into the Top 30. The most critical factor for her is undoubtedly her health.”
Concluding her remarks, Navratilova stated, “I hope Emma can resolve her coaching situation as well. It`s crucial for her to find a dedicated specialist and work with them consistently for a while to see if it`s the right fit.”
