Matteo Arnaldi Reflects on Victory Over Frances Tiafoe in Madrid

Sport news

World No. 44 Matteo Arnaldi commented on his 6-3, 7-5 victory against Frances Tiafoe in the fourth round of the Madrid tournament. The Italian has reached the quarterfinals of a clay-court Masters event for the first time in his career.

“I am very happy; I played a great match,” Arnaldi stated. “I know Frances well – we had a tough fight at Wimbledon, so this win feels like a bit of revenge. I played confidently and handled the key moments effectively. I didn`t manage to serve out the match at 5-4 in the second set, but I immediately broke back. This year I beat Djokovic, and two years ago I defeated Ruud, but after that, I lost 0-2 in sets, so I knew I needed to improve. Now the most important thing is to maintain focus, improve my game, and work hard. These last two matches have been very competitive, and I am eagerly anticipating the next one.”
