World No. 48 Naomi Osaka has revealed her motivation for playing the WTA 125 tournament in Saint-Malo the previous week. This event marked a significant moment as she clinched her debut professional title on clay courts there.
“It was quite frustrating to lose in the first round in Madrid,” Osaka stated in an interview with Tennis Channel. “I had spent three weeks training intensely at the Patrick Mouratoglou Academy and was really hoping to perform well. I believe I might have placed too much pressure on myself.” She added, “Because of that, the goal in Saint-Malo was simply to revert to the fundamentals—focus on practice and play matches. I`m genuinely pleased with how it turned out.”
