Novak Djokovic Comments After His 100th Wimbledon Victory

Sport news

World number six Novak Djokovic has shared his thoughts after securing his 100th victory at Wimbledon. Djokovic achieved this milestone by defeating Miomir Kecmanovic with a score of 6/3, 6/0, 6/4. This win places him second all-time in terms of men`s singles victories at the grass-court Grand Slam, trailing only Roger Federer, who has 105.

“I`ve stated many times that tennis has shaped me into the person I am today,” Djokovic commented. “It has profoundly enriched my life and provided me with unique experiences. I strive to never take anything for granted, especially given my age. I am still actively competing against younger players, running and sliding across the court, performing splits.”

“Wimbledon holds a special place as not just my favorite tournament, but the aspiration of most tennis players,” he continued. “Almost every aspiring player dreams of competing and triumphing here, and I feel incredibly fortunate to have accomplished this multiple times. Any history I contribute at my cherished tournament is a tremendous honor for me.”

When asked about Jannik Sinner, who recently mentioned learning significantly from Djokovic`s game, and whether Djokovic sees elements of his own style in Sinner:

“Yes, I do see it,” Djokovic replied. “Clearly, our playing styles share similarities. Both of us aim for aggressive play and seek to control rallies from the baseline. I recall meeting him when he was quite young, perhaps 13 or 14, and hitting with him briefly. He was slender and tall, somewhat reminiscent of myself. Even then, he struck the ball with considerable power. His excellent timing and shot speed were apparent. He even uses the same Head Speed racquet as me. There are indeed quite a few common points.”

“However, he is, of course, unique in his own right. The development he and his team have achieved over the past few years is remarkable in terms of progress. While the speed of his shots is often highlighted, his timing is truly exceptional. I believe he has successfully minimized the unforced errors that were present earlier in his career. Now, he exhibits incredible precision and consistently applies pressure on opponents due to the rapid pace of his game,” Djokovic concluded during the press conference.
