Italian world No. 5 Jasmine Paolini claimed the WTA 1000 title in Rome, securing a historic victory in her home country`s capital. This triumph makes Paolini the first Italian woman to win the tournament since 1985.
The previous Italian winner of the Rome event was Raffaella Reggi in 1985.
In the final of the WTA 1000 tournament, Paolini defeated American Coco Gauff in straight sets, with a score of 6-4, 6-2.
The Rome title marks Paolini`s first trophy of the current season and the third overall in her career. As a result of this significant win, she is projected to rise to world No. 4 in the updated WTA rankings.
Notably, Paolini also has a chance to clinch the doubles title in Rome. She is scheduled to play in the final alongside fellow Italian Sara Errani, where they will face Veronika Kudermetova of Russia and Elise Mertens of Belgium.
